Myxophaga is one of the smallest suborders of Coleoptera, consisting of approximately 65 species of small to minute beetles in four families. They have notopleural sutures, although on some families the sutures may be difficult to see.
The members of this suborder are aquatic and semi-aquatic and feed on algae.
There is only one genus found in North America: Sphaerius. It is found in bogs.
